(HILLSDALE, Michigan)- The Walsh Women's Cross Country team finished in 4th place at the NCAA Divison II Midwest Regional hosted by Hillsdale College.
Out of a field of 29 teams, the Cavaliers fell just short of an automatic qualification to the NCAA National Championship. The top three teams at each Regional event advance automatically. The Maroon and Gold will have to wait until Monday to see if they get the call that will send them to the National Championship with an at large bid. Grand Valley State, Hillsdale & Michigan Tech qualified for the National Championship.
For the Cavaliers, the season strong trio of Brianna Coy, Andra Lehotay and Claire Robertson secured spots on the Midwest All-Region team. Coy finished 7th overall with a race time of 21:46. Lehotay placed 16th overall with a total race time of 22:15. Coming in strong for the Maroon and Gold to round out the top All-Region runners was Robertson, finishing in 23rd with a run time of 22:26. Other notable runners for the Cavaliers were Alexa Leppelmeier who came in 28th place at 22:36 and Alyssa Viscounte with a clocked race time of 23:12 placing her 43rd overall.
The Cavaliers will patiently wait until Monday to see if they will receive one of 10 at large bids to compete in the NCAA DII National Championships. The National Championship will be held in Pittsburgh on December 1st at Schenley Park.
