Cavs Come From Behind to Defeat D&E

(ELKINS, W.Va.) – It was a perfect weekend for Walsh volleyball as it capped a road trip to the Mountain State with a 3-1 win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday. The Cavaliers (15-10, 11-3) dropped the first set to the Senators (8-15, 3-11) 25-19, but came from behind to take the next three sets 26-24, 25-14, and 25-19.

Momentum was on the side of the hosts as the Senators held a 16-9 lead in set two, but a Justine Coffman kill sparked a 9-1 run by the Cavaliers. After both teams fought each other to 24-24, another Coffman kill followed by a D&E error tied the match.

Walsh dominated the two sets afterwards and never trailed the rest of the way. The 11-point win in set three was one of the Cavaliers' best this season, and set four saw the Maroon and Gold jump out to a 9-0 lead en route to the victory.

Coffman led all players with 14 kills and was followed by Paola Ferrario with 12. Olivia Zanolli added 44 assists. Defensively Amanda Adoranti picked up 22 digs. Samantha Wentz and Ferrario added 13 and 12, respectively.

With five conference matches to go and six overall, Walsh leads the East Division by a half of a game. The Cavs will return to action in their final non-conference contest of the year at Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. start.
