(SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) – It proved to be a tough opening weekend for Walsh as it fell in both contests in its second day of the Capital Classic. The Cavaliers (0-4) started the day with a defeat at the hands of McKendree by scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-12. The Maroon and Gold then closed out the tournament with a 25-17, 25-9, 25-17 loss to Missouri Western State.
Alexis Gilland led the offense on day two with 14 kills between the two matches. Justine Coffman was right behind her with 13. Olivia Zanolli picked up 41 assists on the day in setting up the attack. On the defensive end, Hallie Schroeder dug up 24 attacks as she reached double-figures in both matches.
For the tournament, Lauren Loucks paced the Cavaliers with 32 kills in the four contests. Zanolli was an assist shy of hitting the century mark. Amanda Adoranti hit the half-century mark with 50 digs, while Amber King and Coffman both came up with six blocks each.
Walsh will open up the home season next week with the Cavalier Classic. The Cavs will host Adelphi and Grand Valley State on Friday before doing battle with Bloomsburg and Pittsburgh Johnstown on Saturday.
