(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) Walsh (0-13, 0-8) remained winless after falling in three sets to visiting Michigan Tech University (6-7, 5-3) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match by set scores of 25-20, 28-26 and 25-20. The Cavs will host Northern Michigan University at 4 pm tomorrow.
Despite a furious rally by Walsh in the opening set, Michigan Tech held on for a 25-20 win. Walsh fell behind 14-5 before going into attack mode. The Cavs would put together a 7-2 run to close the gap to 16-12, and would get as close as 17-14 and 19-16.
In a set that featured 12 ties, Michigan Tech took a 2-0 lead with a thrilling 28-26 win in the second set. Walsh jumped to a 10-6 lead, before the Huskies regrouped to knot the match at 11-11. There would be 11 ties the rest of the way, with Walsh holding its last lead at 25-24. Gina Kramer had five kills and Katy Frease three.
The third set was just as hotly contested as the first two, featuring seven ties and six lead changes. MTU took the lead for good at 8-7, but never led by more than four points until the final point and a 25-20 win.
