(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) Walsh (0-12) rallied from a 2-0 deficit, only to fall in five sets to Alderson Broaddus University (5-10) at Alumni Arena tonight by the scores of 25-20, 25-21, 16-25, 19-25, 15-11. The Cavs return to Great Lakers Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday when they host Michigan Tech University at 7 p.m.
Walsh let a 10-5 lead slip away in the first set in falling 25-20. AB won the second set 25-21. Walsh held a late lead at 18-17 on a Kelsey Snider kill, but were outscored 8-3 the rest of the way to fall behind 2-0.
Walsh led from start-to-finish in the third set in posting a 25-16 win. After falling behind 5-1 in the fourth set, the Cavs bounced back to take control at 10-9, and never trailed the rest of the set to knot the match at two-all.
The Battlers jumped to a 4-1 lead in the fifth and deciding set, forcing the Cavs to play catch-up. Walsh tied the match at 7-all, and closed to within a single point at 8-7, but would get no closer.
Liza Pflugradt led Walsh with a season-high 17 kills, with only three errors. Snider added 13 kills and 21 digs. Gina Kramer and Kelly Miller each had eight kills, with Miller also having seven block assists. Kaitlin Bronikowski led Walsh with 33 digs and Emilee Muzechuk handed out a match-high 47 assists.
