(MORGANTOWN, W.Va.) – The Walsh women's tennis team won its third consecutive contest with a 7-2 decision over Davis & Elkins on Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers evened its season at 7-7 overall and remained unbeaten in the G-MAC at 3-0. The Senators are now 2-7 and were playing in their conference opener.
The Cavs got a quick 2-0 lead after they picked up wins at second and third doubles over the Senators. G-MAC Player of the Week Maria Kacalova and Katharina Razum finished first at the second spot with an 8-2 victory over Ester Bolmenas and Keslie Roby. Sofia Khairutdinova and Parvanee Karimpour followed with an 8-4 victory over Karin Rosario and Amanda Fewster at thirds.
Mercedes Fernandez and Clara Drasch narrowly fell in first doubles 9-8, but both rebounded to win in singles play. Fernandez took home a 6-0, 6-4 win against Laura Fermosel at the top spot, while Drasch defeated Laura Vargas 6-1, 6-3 at third singles.
Razum provided the match-winning point at fourth singles in come-from-behind fashion. After she dropped the first set 6-3 against Bolmenas, Razum responded with wins of 6-2 and 6-1.
Khairutdinova and Karimpour picked up the final two points with wins by score of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively.
Walsh will remain in the Mountain State for another G-MAC contest tomorrow against Alderson Broaddus.
