Walsh Women Move Ahead To G-MAC Tourney with Shutout of Pioneers

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The regular season came to an end Tuesday at Milazzo Field as Walsh scored a 2-0 victory over arch rival Malone. The good news for the Cavaliers (12-3-1, 11-2-1) is they will advance to the postseason and host a game this Saturday.

This game was much different than the previous meeting with the Pioneers (5-9-2, 3-9-2) as the Maroon and Gold didn't waste any time in lighting up the scoreboard. With 21 goals scored in the previous four games headed into last night, it took Walsh just 13:20 to add another as Alisha Himes put one past the keeper on a header on a helper from Olivia Peters. Brianna Sanborn then had her opportunity and made it count with her 12th tally of the season on an assist from Croynne Swift.

The first tally was set up by way of a couple of corner kicks by Peters. After the first one was deflected out of bounds, the second was played short, and after a couple of passes, a ball was sent into the box where Himes was able to finish on a header.

On the opposite end, Walsh's defense picked up another shutout as Mickey McClanahan went the distance for yet another shutout. She faced seven shots on the night and made four saves. As of this writing, Walsh holds the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Cedarville.

No matter what, kickoff will take place at 5 p.m. on Saturday for the G-MAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
