(MARIETTA, Ohio) – The best season in Walsh women's soccer history came to an end with a 2-0 defeat to Ohio Dominican in the G-MAC Tournament semifinals on Thursday. The Cavaliers end the year at 15-4. The Panthers are now 15-4-1 and moves on to Saturday's championships.
There was some question at the beginning of the day if the game would be played after rains caused poor field conditions at Ohio Valley. As a result, the game was moved to Marietta College's Don Drumm Stadium.
The location site didn't appear to bother the Cavaliers as they came out of the gate running on all cylinders and outshot ODU 11-4 in the first half. However the tide quickly turned at the start of the second when the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick just 33 seconds into the period and scored for the 1-0 lead. That score held up for 12 minutes until the Panthers added another on a corner kick in the 58th minute.
The Cavaliers had some excellent opportunities late, but ODU's Marissa Wierzbicki's made three saves on in the final 10 minutes.
Mickey McClanahan did well to keep Walsh in the game with four saves, three of which came in the first half.
Walsh's 15 wins match the program record and the .789 winning percentage is a new program best. The Cavaliers also matched the program record for shutouts in a season with 12.
