Cavs Clinch Home Playoff Game With Shutout of Senators

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – With 3-0 win over Davis & Elkins, Walsh clinched a home playoff game in next Saturday's G-MAC Quarterfinals this evening at Milazzo Field. The Cavaliers (12-3, 9-3) recorded 10th shutout of the season and second of the Senators (0-12-2, 0-10-2) after a 1-0 win in Elkins, W.Va., earlier this season.

Brianna Sanborn started the scoring with her goal late in the first half. Olivia Peters set up the play and fed the ball up the middle for a 1-on-1 opportunity for Sanborn who promptly rolled it down the bottom right 90 in the 32nd minute.

That score held up until the 62nd minute when Ashley Dobbins scored on assists from Brianna Sanborn and Sydney Santaguida. Sanborn set up the play with a cross from the right side of the box. Santaguida was able to get the one-touch flick to center up a perfect shot for Dobbins.

Melissa Shoff added the final touches on another assist from Olivia Peters in the 75th minute to set up the final score.

Walsh didn't need much work on the defensive end as the Senators managed only two shots the entire game. Both came in the second half and only one was on goal as Tina Wulin sent a hard shot up the middle just of the hands of Mickey McClanahan who was able to deflect it off the crossbar.

The Cavaliers will return to action Saturday as they host fellow another Mountain State opponent in Alderson Broaddus. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
