Women's Soccer Ready For Former Conference Foe

The Walsh women's soccer team opens up the season with a familiar foe in former conference rival Northwood. The Cavaliers enter the season picked to finish fifth in their new conference, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, in which 12 teams compete in the sport. The Timberwolves were picked to finish eighth in the now-10 team Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Cavaliers are coming off of one of their best seasons in program history in which they finished 10-6-4 overall. They advanced to the semifinals in the GLIAC Tournament, their best appearance in the conference, and had the best defensive team in program history that allowed just 0.91 goals per game with eight shutouts.

Olivia Peters returns to lead the offense in her sophomore campaign after one of the best seasons ever by a freshman. She scored 14 goals and five assists for 33 points. As a result, she was named GLIAC Freshman of the Year with a spot on the All-GLIAC Second Team.

Both goalies from last year's team that recorded those shutouts also return in Dani Shambaugh and Mickey McClanahan.

This will be the first of two home games to open the season. The Cavs will host former G-MAC member Salem International this Sunday. Kickoff with the Tigers is set for 1 p.m.
