(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – In one of the closest games of the season, Walsh edged Alderson Broaddus 11-9 on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers (4-8, 1-3) also picked up their first GLIAC win of the season with the win against the Battlers (1-10, 0-4).
Action was back and forth the entire game as neither team held a lead larger than two goals for the duration of the contest. Walsh picked up the first two-score advantage just seconds apart as Amanda Hodel (Fr., Cincinnati, OH/Lakota West) and Aly Jajack (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) scored just over three minutes in. After a goal by AB, Lane Brunkala (Fr., Mentor, OH/HS) made it 3-1 in favor of the Cavs.
Emma Armour (Fr., Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Catholic) made the score 4-2 before the Battlers made their best run of the game with four consecutive goals to go up 6-4 with 5:15 left in the first half. Goals by Steffi Zepp (So., Dublin, OH/Coffman) and Maria Nobile (So., Westerville, OH/Olentangy Orange) tied the game back up at 6-6 before the half to put momentum back on Walsh's end.
The Cavs took advantage of that as Hodel added another pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to give her team the lead once again. AB was able to tie the game, but could not take advantage any farther as Zepp scored on a pair of unassisted goals to give the Cavs the lead for good at 10-8 with 13:35 to go.
The Battlers put one more in the back of the net before Brunkala sealed the game with a goal with 1:57 to go.
Tia Tyler (Jr., Columbus, OH/St. Francis DeSales) had an impressive game as she made 13 saves on 26 shots faced on the day.
Zepp paced the team in scoring with three goals and an assist for four points. Hodel added three goals for the Cavs offensively.
Brooke Thomas led the Battlers with four goals on the day.
