(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - Walsh and Malone are set to square off in the 21st annual Mayors' Cup game to kick in the new year. The Cavaliers enter with a record of 7-5 overall while the Pioneers are 6-4.
The Cavaliers already hold a victory over their rivals this season with a 62-60 decision in the fourth game of the year back on November 19. The Cavaliers won last year's contest 64-51 to retire the cup for the first time since the 2009-10 season. Walsh has won the last four meetings with the Pioneersand six of the last seven.
Walsh most recently picked up back-to-back wins two weekends ago on the road against Northwood and Lake Superior State. Alex Hochstedler's buzzer beater gave the Cavs a 75-72 win over the Timberwolves and was led by Brooklyn Wooten's 20 points and six assists on the day.
Two days later, the Cavs shook off a 25-point deficit to defeat Lake Superior State 83-80 in over-time to tab a perfect weekend away from home. Hochstedler and Wooten led the way with 19 points each, Wooten added a career high eight assists. Graham finished one rebound shy of a double-double (11/9). Brittni Clopton's 15 points and seven rebounds gave four Cavs double-figures on the night.
