(NORTON, Ohio) – The Walsh men and women's cross country teams let the rest of the colleges and universities in the state know that they can run with anyone. That's because both squads came away from Saturday's All-Ohio Championships with first place hardware.
On the men's side, the No. 18 Cavaliers edged out rival Malone for the top spot in the Division II/NAIA grouping. The Maroon and Gold finished with a team score of 46, just two points better than their in-county neighbors to the south who had 48. Cedarville was third in the 13-team field with 58 points.
Jacob Kernell was the top thin clad for the Cavaliers with a time of 24:37.5 to finish third in the second and 12th in the overall standings regardless of division. He was immediately followed by Jacob Caniford with a time of 24:38.4.
Noah Murray was the third Cavalier to cross and did so with a time of 24:55.8 to finished 10th in the division. Spencer Wirick was fourth for Walsh at 24:55.8, and Jacob Turner completed the team score with a time of 25:20.9. All five runners finished in the top 18 in the section and top 41 regardless of division.
The Cavaliers will have another loaded meet next week when they head to Lewis University for a conference crossover. That race will take place Saturday at 10 a.m.
