(EVANSVILLE, Ind.) – The Walsh men's cross country team completed its best season since joining NCAA Division II as it finished 22nd in the national championships at Angel Mounds Saturday morning. The Cavaliers finished 23rd two years ago in their only other appearance in the national championships.
The Maroon and Gold finished with a score of 537 with Jacob Kernell as the top runner. He finished the race with a time of 32:28.8. He was 74th in the individual standings and received 62 points towards the team standings.
Rounding out the team score were Justin Maroni and Jacob Turner. Maroni closed out his collegiate career with a time of 33:30.8. Turner crossed with a time of 33:49.3. Both kept improving throughout the race. Maroni jumped 81 spots while Turner improved 84 positions from start to finish.
Adams State swept the national championships as its men also won with 44 points. All five of its runners finished inside the top 16. Tiffin's James Ngandu cruised to the individual title with a time of 30:18.8
