(HOUGHTON, Mich.) - Walsh competed in the 2013 GLIAC Cross Country Championship and finished 10th on a chilly, rainy Saturday morning. The event was hosted by Michigan Tech. Nationally ranked No. 3 Grand Valley State University won the event with five runners in the top seven.
Justin Groubert (Jr., Hartville, OH/Lake) just missed out on a top 20 finish by a second with a time of 26:03 to finish 21st individually. Naimbai Njerakey (Fr., North Canton, OH/Wheaton, MD) was next to cross the finish line for Walsh with a time of 26:57 to finish 47th. Matt Roshak (Jr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) was third for the Maroon and Gold with a time of 27:13. Ben Lehotay (Fr., Magnolia, OH/Sandy Valley) and Matt Thiessen (So., Navarre, OH/Perry) rounded out the team scoring with times of 27:33 and 27:37, respectively.
Five of the top seven teams in the latest regional rankings are from the GLIAC and participated in the event. The region receives four automatic qualifiers for the national tournament.
The NCAA Division II Regional Meet will be next up on the slate for the Cavaliers' thin-clads. That event takes place in two weeks as Walsh will have to travel back up North to Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday, Nov. 9.
