NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh University men's track and field prepped for the 2019 Great Midwest Outdoor Championships next week as they competed at the Gina Relays at Hillsdale and the Ohio Open at Ohio University over the weekend.
In Hillsdale, two of the runners competed for the Cavaliers. Josh Conrad was 14th in the 800 meter run, running a time of 1:56.82. Jacob Kernell finished third in the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:53.74.
At the Ohio Open, twelve student-athletes and one relay team placed in the top three. As a team, Walsh finished 18th of 31 teams. In the 100 meter dash, Michael Contrucci was second overall after he ran a 11.28 in the finals. Owen Read was the winner in the 200 meter dash with a 22.73 second run. Lane Knoch won the 110 meter hurdles event in 14.92 seconds. Contrucci, Read, and Knoch combined with Corey Harder on the winning 4x100 relay team as they ran a 43.11 together. Walsh won four field events and had top two representation in five events. Ronald Robinson (6.43 meters) and Devin Wonner (5.69 meters) went 1-2 in the long jump. Varney Pelima (13.59 meters) made it a Walsh top three in the triple jump as Robinson (13.58 meters) and Wonner (11.66 meters) finished 2nd and 3rd behind Pelima. Dante Penza doubled up with wins in the shot put and the discus, throwing 16.06 meters in the shot put and 45.90 meters in the discus. Jacob Ott was third in the discus with a final throw of 44.65. Bradley Gallitz finished second in the hammer throw on a 52.39 meter throw.
The Cavaliers will compete at the G-MAC Championships, starting on Thursday (May 2), held at Hillsdale College.
