(CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh men's tennis team got back into the win column with a decisive 8-1 victory over Davis & Elkins in G-MAC play on Saturday afternoon. The win over the Senators (2-9, 0-4) snapped a four-game losing streak for the Cavalires (6-8, 1-2).
Walsh took the early 3-0 advantage after it swept a competitive doubles play. Vasily Vidmanov and Rodrigo Garcia scored an 8-4 victor over Andrew Shand and Tristam Spitsnaugle at the first spot. Filipp Kulynych and Guilherme Carneiro followed with a narrow 8-6 win at second doubles against Matthew Mulyadi and Jacob Bowman. Jonah Carter and Heitor Adegas completed the trifecta with an 8-2 decision over Mason Schoonover and Cody Turner at thirds.
Vidmanov, Garcia, Adegas, Carter, and Carneiro all were perfect on the day as each also secured wins in singles play. Vidmanov defeated Mulyadi 6-2, 6-3 at first singles to complete the fete. Garcia had a tough first set, but still managed to go on and defeat Spitsnaugle 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 at third singles.
Walsh's depth showed through at fourth through sixth singles as Adegas won both sets 6-0, Carter won both sets 6-1, and Carneiro won both sets 6-0.
The Cavs now head on the road for their next four matches. First up will be Findlay tomorrow bright and early at 9 a.m.
