(CANTON, Ohio) – In the opening weekend of conference play, Walsh wrapped up a perfect weekend with a 6-3 victory over Lake Superior State at the Hall of Fame Courts in Canton. The Cavaliers (6-5, 2-0) initially went down to the Lakers (4-5, 0-2) after doubles, but won five of the singles matches to record the win.
Lake Superior State started off ahead in the match with wins at second and third doubles. The lone win for the Cavaliers came at the top spot as Ross Whittaker and Vasiliy Vidmanov scored an 8-4 win over Ieuan Lister and Miles Munro.
Whittaker completed a perfect weekend himself as he helped Walsh clinch the match in singles play. As he faced off against the Lakers' Jake Prime, Whittaker held off match point to post a thrilling 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) victory to secure the fifth match point and the win for Walsh.
Elsewhere in singles action, Vidmanov, Pablo Cabezon, Carlos Jaque, and Heitor Adegas all came through with wins to help Walsh come from behind to take the win. Vidmanov won at second singles 6-2, 6-3. Cabezon was victorious at the No. 3 spot 6-4, 6-1. Jaque edged out a close 7-5, 6-4 decision at No. 4 singles. Adegas cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
The Cavaliers will return to action in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover event hosted by Lewis University. It will span across three days and is scheduled to start on Thursday.
