(CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh closed out the opening conference weekend with a 7-2 loss to Wayne State at the Hall of Fame Courts on Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers are now 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Warriors are 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC.
Wayne State opened up the match with a sweep in doubles action. Walsh was competitive in singles competition, but was unable to pick up more than two points.
The two wins came at the second and third singles spots. Vasily Vidmanov (Fr., Prague, Czech Republic/ Russian Embassy School) scored the victory in the second spot over Clement Charriere 7-5, 6-4. Ross Whittaker (So., Massillon, OH/Lake) made short work of Luke Ruocco 6-3, 6-1.
The Cavaliers will now fly south for spring break with three matches in the Tampa metro area. The first match will be this Sunday against North Central (Minn.) at the University of South Florida.
