(DAYTON, Ohio) - Walsh participated in the annual Wright State Shootout for men's tennis and had some standout results in the many singles and doubles tournaments that took place Friday through Sunday.
Ross Whittaker (Fr., Massillon, OH/Lake) and Carlos Jaque (So., Chijuayante, Concepcion, Chile/Lycee Charles de Gaulle) were the top players in singles competition. Whittaker worked his way through the A singles bracket before being tripped up in the semi-finals. He eventually recovered to win the consolation match for a third place finish. Jaque duplicated that feat in the B singles bracket.
In doubles action, Whittaker and Iagos Lucca (Fr., Caxias du Sul, Brazil/Colegio La Salle Caxias) were defeated in their first match of the A doubles bracket, but won out to become the backdraw champions. Pablo Cabezon (So., Santander, Cantabria, Spain/Calasanz Collegue) were in the same bracket and made their way to the semifinals before they lost the next two matches for a fourth place finish.
The event was not in a team format, so all results will be reflected on the individual records. The Cavaliers' next team match will be this Thursday when they travel to the College of Wooster with a start time of 4 p.m.
