(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh won a long and hard-fought match against visiting Otterbein by a score of 5-4 with the match going down to the wire. The Cavaliers (1-1) secured the win when Ross Whittaker (Fr., Massillon, OH/Lake) won his second singles match in a lengthy three sets 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. The Cardinals fall to 1-2.
Walsh led 2-1 after the doubles portion of the match thanks to wins by Pablo Cabezon (So, Cantander, Cantabria, Spain/Calasanz Collegue) and Carlos Jaque (So., Chijuayante, Concepcion, Chile/Lycee Charles de Gaulle) by a score of 8-4 at second doubles and Louis Thomas (Sr., Canton, OH/Jackson) and Alex Portelance (So., Repentigny, Quebec, Canada/Felix-Leclerc) by a score of 8-5 at third doubles.
In singles action, Iagos Lucca (Fr., Caxias du Sul, Brazil/Colegio La Salle Caxias) and Jaque won at fourth and sixth singles, respectively. Lucca won 6-4, 6-1, while Jaque defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-2.
The Cavs take the courts again this weekend as they participate in the Wright State Fall Shootout in individual tournament set-up. The action will start on Friday and run through Sunday.
