(FINDLAY, Ohio) – Dwight Van Dyke scored a pair of goals sandwiched around what proved to be a game-winning score by Wesley Burton in a 3-1 Walsh win at Findlay Saturday. It was an important result for the Cavaliers (5-5-1, 3-5-1) who are fighting for a second consecutive G-MAC playoff berth.
The contest against the Oilers (2-8, 2-5) kicked off a stretch of six consecutive games on the road for the Maroon and Gold. This one couldn't have gone better for Walsh who was shutout in its last two contests.
Findlay initialized a high-scoring second half with the first goal of the game in the 53rd minute. The Cavs were quick to equalize, however, as Van Dyke found the back of the net just three minutes later. Burton eventually provided the go-ahead and game-winning goal in the 74th.
Van Dyke put the finishing touches on the win on an assist from Brandon Denton in the 85th minute. He remains among the G-MAC leaders with nine on the season.
Shots were relatively event with the Cavs holding a 12-10 advantage. The first half was limited for both teams as Findlay outshot Walsh 3-1. Findlay held a 7-4 edge on corner kicks.
The next stop on the Cavalier caravan is the Music City as Walsh takes on Trevecca on Thursday at 5 p.m.
