(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – A slow start didn't hurt Walsh in its season opener as the Cavaliers came from behind to defeat Ohio Valley (W.Va.) 4-1 in non-conference action on a cloudy Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots (0-2) of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference opened the season on Thursday.
OVU was the first team to strike as it caught Walsh off guard as Austin Roe was able to take a deflection and score in the seventh minute. However, the lead didn't last long as Even Heiss scored on an assist from Dillon Parsons 40 seconds later. The play was set up when Parsons sent a pass from midfield to Heiss on the left for a breakaway opportunity.
The second half belonged to the Cavaliers as both Heiss and Mountstephens added insurance goals. Heiss scored his second in the 66th minute from the left side to the right lower 90 on a pass from Brandon Frederick. Mountstephens put on the final touches with a shot down the middle from Michael Saddler.
Ayman Youssef picked up his first win with four saves on eight shots.
Overall, Walsh outshot the visitors 21-8.
The Cavs now set their sights on their rivals down the road as they travel to Malone on Friday. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
