(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh cruised to a victory in its last non-conference contest of the season with a 106-37 defeat of Wright State-Lake at Alumni Arena on Monday evening. The Cavaliers improved to 12-4 overall on the season, while the Lakers dropped to 7-14.
The Cavs were in control from the start despite giving up the first basket. After that, Walsh sparked a 29-2 run over the next eight minutes. The Cavs barely missed as they sank 75 percent of their shots over the first 10 minutes of the game.
By the break, Walsh had a commanding 55-17 lead. Seventeen of its 22 baskets were assisted. Newly minted G-MAC Player of the Week Chandler Vaudrin made 10 of those and finished with 15 for the game.
Bo Furcron outscored the Lakers by himself with 19 points in the first half. He finished with a game-high23. Darryl Straughter added 16 points as did Will Parker off the bench. Steven Carpenter and Andy Lucien scored 12 each.
Of course offense wasn't the only think on display. The nation's fifth-best blocking team swatted away numerous attempts by Wright State-Lake as well. Walsh came into the game averaging 6.0 per game and reached that number by the half.
Lucien was responsible for four of those during that time and had three in first four minutes.
On the glass, the Cavs dominated with a 59-31 edge in rebounds. Branden Wilkins pulled down 11 caroms with Vaudrin just behind with 10.
The Cavs now head on the road for a three-game stretch to close out January. The first of those will be at Alderson Broaddus on Thursday. Tip-off with the Battlers is set for 7:30 p.m.
