(HOUGHTON, Mich.) – Walsh kicks off its 22nd season on the gridiron in the Upper Peninsula against Michigan Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. It's the third time the Cavaliers will meet the Huskies and first time since the 2013 season.
The Cavaliers fell in both contests with the first taking place in what was then Fawcett Stadium in 2012 as Walsh hosted Tech for its first home GLIAC contest.
Walsh is 14-7 all-time in season opening games and 13-8 in first road games of the season. The Cavs have gone 1-2 in season opening games under Karras and have split the last two season-opening games which were played against Tiffin.
The Cavs will make the trek to the Upper Peninsula twice this season. The next trip occurs early next month as Walsh heads to Marquette to take on Northern Michigan in the Superior Dome on Saturday, Oct. 1, in a Week 5 showdown. This is also the first of two consecutive road games to start the season as the Cavs play Hillsdale next week.
Walsh returns six starters on both sides of the ball and one on special teams. Reid Worstell, Jeremy Willison, Matt Matuska, and Aidan O'Neill will serve as the offensive team captains. Alex Jones, Nick King, and Seamus O'Sullivan are the defensive captains.
