(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh football team will kick off its season in just over a month and will return to its roots for the 2016 season. With Tom Benson Stadium undergoing renovations, the Cavaliers have moved their home games for this year to North Canton Memorial Stadium at nearby Hoover High School.
The Cavs will host Saginaw Valley State in their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 17, at noon. The first 400 fans in attendance will receive an 18 x 24 2016 schedule poster sponsored by Sonic America's Drive-In located across the street from Walsh University.
This year's season will be Walsh's final in the GLIAC, but will feature some new opponents that that Cavs have yet to see. New to this year's slate are Hillsdale, Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley State in consecutive weeks. The Cavs take on the Chargers in Week 2 while they host the Cardinals and Lakers in consecutive home games the following two weeks.
Former opponents that return to this year's schedule include Michigan Tech in the season opener, Northern Michigan, Tiffin, Wayne State, Malone, Ohio Dominican, Ashland, and Northwood.
Homecoming is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22, against Malone at 6 p.m. It is the only non-conference game on the schedule.
