NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Walsh Cavaliers baseball team split the second day of the series with the Hillsdale College Chargers as Walsh won game one and the Chargers took the nightcap.
Walsh won the first game 4-1 while the Chargers ended the series with an 8-2 win in the series finale. The Cavaliers ended up winning three of four games this week over the Chargers.
Hillsdale struck first in the top of the first inning but the Cavaliers tied the game one inning later. Brenden Spaulding drilled a solo homerun deep to center field as the game was tied at one through two innings. After Eric Conner doubled in the third, Avery Janning singled home Conner as the Cavaliers lead 2-1. Janning doubled home a run in the fifth inning for his second RBI of the day. Walsh closed out the scoring with a run scoring on an error by the Chargers. Walsh won 4-1 in seven innings.
Janning had two hits and two RBI while Joey Holiga also had two hits in the opener.
Ben Bulchik tossed a complete game, with one run allowed on six hits. He fanned six batters in the contest.
Hillsdale broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning with two runs off back-to-back homers. Conner cut the lead in half with a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Hillsdale pushed the lead to three runs after a two-run inning. Andrew Czech drove in a run on a RBI groundout in the seventh inning. The Chargers scored four runs in the ninth inning during a rainstorm as the final score was 8-2.
Jacob Beachy had two hits while Czech and Cam Kaiser each walked twice to reach base two times.
The Cavaliers will host Malone on Tuesday (April 23) at 2:00 PM from Biery Stadium.
