(AUBURNDALE, Fla.) – Walsh scored its second victory on spring break with a 6-5 decision over Davenport at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex on Sunday evening. The Cavaliers improved to 2-4 on the short season while the Panthers dropped to 7-5.
Head Coach Tim Mead's squad jumped out to a 6-2 lead with a three-run inning in the seventh and held off a late rally by the Panthers to hold on for the win. Luke Miller picked up the win after he allowed just one run on two hits and struck out five.
Cobe Hutchison started the rally with a double to center that scored Ross Etgen. Eric Conner brought him home in the next at-bat on a single to center and later scored himself on a double by Andrew Czech.
Walsh initially got on the board in the third inning when Marcus Bobb hit a sac fly to center field that brought in Joey Holiga to tie the game at 1-1. In the fifth, Hutchison and Etgen scored on an dropped fly by the centerfielder to make the score 3-1.
Czech, Debruler, and Hutchison all had multiple-hit games to lead the Cavs' offense.
Walsh will be back in action again tomorrow night when it takes on Notre Dame College. First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m.
