Kernell Named Men's Track Athlete of the Year, 16 Cavaliers on All-Conference Team

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference released the 2019 Outdoor Track & Field Season Awards and All-Conference Teams on Thursday (May 16). The individual awards were voted on by the league's coaches and the All-Conference Teams were based off of the results from the 2019 Great Midwest Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at Hillsdale two weeks ago. 

Jacob Kernell, a senior distance runner, was picked as the Men's Track Athlete of the Year and First Team All-Conference following his performances in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase and the 5000 Meter run. Kernell won the G-MAC Championship in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a meet record, Walsh record and the fastest time in the Midwest Region (8:52.87). His steeplechase time was the fifth fastest in all of Division II.  He was second in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 14:41.68, behind G-MAC Freshman of the Year Emeric Arnaud. He will compete at the NCAA D2 National Championships next week in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase. 

Walsh had 16 members of the All-Conference teams, in correspondence with the G-MAC Championships. They are listed below by teams and event(s) that they reached the podium in.
