OWENSBORO, Kentucky - In preparation of the 2019 Great Midwest Men's and Women's Tennis Championships at Centre Courts this weekend, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced the 2019 award winners and All-Conference winners at the ice cream social held on Thursday (April 25).
The Cavaliers had five student-athletes honored, including the top freshman on the men's side.
Jakob Riglewski was named Freshman of the Year and All-Conference First Team for men's tennis. Riglewski finished the regular season 16-11 and 5-1 in the conference as the #1 singles competitor. The Munich, Germany native was 5-1 in doubles action within the conference.
On the women's slate, four members of the Cavaliers were selected by the league's coaches. Mercedes Fernandez was named First Team All-Conference while Nicole Beidacki, Clara Drasch and Parvanee Karimpour were all part of the Second Team All-Conference. Fernandez was 11-13 overall in singles and 5-2 in the conference as the #1 singles player. Beidacki and Drasch each won 17 matches in singles play this season and finished conference play with a 4-2 and 5-2 record, respectively. As doubles partners, Beidacki and Fernandez went 6-1 in the conference in first doubles matches. Drasch and Karimpour carried a 5-1 doubles record through the G-MAC in third doubles.
Both teams will face Tiffin in the semifinal round of the G-MAC Tournaments today in Kentucky.
