(GAMBIER, Ohio) – More postseason awards have come in for Walsh cross country and track & field with the All-Ohio Coaches Association as well as Accusplit announcing end-of-year accolades. The cross country honors were for this past season while Accusplit announced awards for the 2016-17 season.
In the NCAA Division II/NAIA portion of the All-Ohio Awards, the Cavaliers nearly swept the docket after being named in five of the six categories.
Sarah Berger was named Division II Female Runner of the Year after she finished second individually in cross country national championships, the best finish ever for a Walsh distance runner. The Cavaliers also won both Freshman Male and Freshman Female of the Year awards with Noah Murray and Alexa Leppelmeier, respectively.
After the women's team finished 12th and the men's team finished 22nd at the national championships, Walsh was also honored as having both the Men's and Women's Coaching Staff of the Year.
In Phoenix, Accusplit, the leader in the professional stopwatch and timing industry since 1972, has recognized the nation's best collegiate relay teams and their coaches at the 2017 USTFCCCA Convention at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa. Accusplit Relay Awards are giving to those relay teams that ran the fastest times in their respective outdoor relay events.
For Division II women, Walsh took home the award for the 4x800 meter relay as Tori Reeves, Andra Lehotay, Jetaiya Smith, and Sarah Berger. The quartet recorded that time at the Raleigh Relays featuring Division I competition and finished second in the event in March earlier this year.
