(NEW ORLEANS) – The Walsh women's track & field team remain nationally ranked in the top 25 for the third consecutive week as it stands at No. 21 this week. The Cavaliers dropped one spot from last week's ranking of No. 20, but are still one spot up from their debut of No. 22 two weeks ago.
This past week the Maroon and Gold sent split squads to the Grand Valley Big Meet as well as Marietta College. The highlight of both meets was the distance medley relay team consisting of Andra Lehotay, Jetaiya Smith, Tori Reeves, and Sarah Berger finishing third at Grand Valley with a time of 11:35.90. The time was good enough to set a new school record and serve as the fourth-best time in Division II this season.
New provo marks were also set by Lehotay in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:11.76 and Morrisa Mallory in the shot put with a distance of 13.57 meters. In addition to helping improve the DMR's provo time, Berger also improved her individual provo time in the mile.
Overall on the season, that sets the number of provo marks the women's team has met to 10 with six school records.
The women's team currently has five top 25 rankings in individual events. In addition to the DMR, Berger is fifth in the mile, Kaitlyn Barber is sixth in the pole vault, and Lehotay is 14th in the 800 and 16th in the mile.
The Cavaliers will be at the Kent State Tune Up this Saturday before heading to the GLIAC Indoor Championships the last weekend in February.
