Women's Soccer Historic Season Comes to Close

(ALLENDALE, Mich.) - The women's soccer team advanced to the regional semifinals yesterday afternoon where they took on No. 1 Grand Valley State. Walsh was slotted as the No. 4 seed in the region. The Cavs defeated No. 5 Saginaw Valley in the regional quarterfinal 1-0, to reach yesterday's semifinal match.

It was a defensive battle early on as neither team was able to connect for a goal until the 30th minute when Grand Valley's Ava Cook scored her first of three goals. Olivia Trombley scored with a header off a rebound only two minutes later. Grand Valley scored a third time in the first half off a corner kick that bounced off a Walsh defender's leg. Cook then scored two goals in the second half to make the final score 5-0.

Walsh ends their historic season 15-5-1 overall and 11-2-1 in the G-MAC. They made their first ever NCAA appearance and secured their first ever NCAA win before bowing out yesterday afternoon.

Grand Valley will take on Ferris State in the regional final Friday, Nov. 16.
