Women's Basketball Historic Season Comes to a Close

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Walsh University women's basketball team came up short this afternoon in the NCAA Division II regional quarterfinals to close out their historic season. The  #7 Cavs fell to #2 Lewis 86-71, ending the season 25-7. The Flyers of Lewis will move on to the regional semifinal where they will face Grand Valley on Saturday (March 16).

Walsh hung with Lewis throughout the first half, tying the Flyers in second quarter scoring, 25-25. Lewis led at the half, 47-43 including 26 points from Jessica Kelliher. For the Cavs, freshman Quionche Carter came up big in the first half, posting 16 points. 

Carter finished the game with 21 points to lead the Cavaliers' scoring efforts. She also had three steals and dished out five assists. Tyler Newkirk and Brittni Clopton were the other Cavaliers to reach double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Clopton also grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. Jamie Halloran drilled three three-pointers en route to nine points on the day. 

Kelliher finished with 39 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Flyers.
