(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh women's basketball team ended the regular season on a high note with a 61-53 victory over Findlay on Senior Night at Alumni Arena. The Cavaliers earned the No. 8 seed in next week's GLIAC Tournament with a 15-12 overall and 11-9 conference record. The Oilers end the season at 13-15 overall and 7-13 in the conference.
To make the night even better, Jalynn Graham joined the 1,000-point club with a buzzer-beating layup to close the first quarter. She is the 20th player in program history to do so and surpassed Shelley Allen for 19th on the all-time scoring list.
It helped turn the momentum tide in favor of the Cavaliers as a dominating second quarter saw the Maroon and Gold outscore the Oilers 22-9 to take control of the ball game. A layup by Brittni Clopton helped Walsh go on a 15-2 run capped by a 3-pointer from Shelby Henkel.
Findlay wasn't able to regain the lead the rest of the way. The Oilers closed the deficit to three with 45 seconds left in the third quarter, but Brooklyn Wooten and Clopton closed the frame with a pair of layups to go back up by seven.
Wooten finished the night with a game-high 16 points with eight coming from the free throw line. She also had a game-high seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Graham followed with 13 points and was an impressive 6-of-9 from the floor with six rebounds and two steals.
The Cavaliers will now gear up to take on top-ranked and unbeaten Ashland for the third time this season. It's the third consecutive year Walsh will play in the postseason. The GLIAC Quarterfinal contest will tip-off from Kates Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
