(NEW ORLEANS) – The USTFCCCA announced its men's and women's All-Academic teams and both Walsh teams have achieved the honor for the fourth consecutive year. In addition to that, 13 Cavaliers earned All-Academic Individual honors.
The Cavaliers' men's team had its highest ranking ever with the eighth-best GPA nationally at 3.57. Last season the men's team tied for 21st with a 3.34 GPA. Walsh was the second-highest team in the G-MAC as Alderson Broaddus tied Azusa Pacific for the best team GPA at 3.77.
On the women's side, Walsh was No. 18 in the nation and No. 1 in the G-MAC with a GPA of 3.65. Union (Tenn.) topped the women's list with a 3.92 GPA.
Six individuals for the men's team and seven for the women comprised of the baker's dozen to earn All-Academic Individual honors. Steven Kapes, Jacob Kernell, Justin Maroni, Noah Murray, Jacob Turner, and Spencer Wirick were named on the men's team. Sarah Berger, Brianna Coy, Chelsea Johnson, Maggie Kroll, Andra Lehotay, Alexa Leppelmeier, and Tori Reeves were named for the women.
Overall, there were 176 schools that picked up All-Academic honors with 157 women's teams and 119 men's teams. Walsh was one of 112 to have both men's and women's teams listed, and just one of six to have both teams listed in the top 20.
