(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Cavalier thinclads dominated their opening meet with a first place finish in the annual Ric Sayre Invitational Saturday morning. Walsh finished with a total of 17 points, easily distancing itself from second place Mount Union which finished with 43.
Loraine CCC finished third followed by Hiram in fourth.
The Cavs nearly swept the top five places with Naimbai Njerakey taking top honors with a time of 26:29.48. Daniel Siebenaller finished second with a time of 26:51.76. Solomon Yoder was final Cavalier to break the 27-minute mark with a time of 27:59.38.
Matt Thiessen finished fourth with a time of 27:04.91. A pair of Purple Raiders crossed the finish line after him, but Justin Maroni followed shortly after for the seventh place spot and a time of 27:15.88 to round out Walsh's scoring.
The Cavs are off next weekend and will next compete in the National Catholic Meet hosted by the University of Notre Dame and the Malone Invitational, both on Friday, Sept. 19. The National Catholic Meet is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start while the Malone Inviational is start will be announced later.
