NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers men's track and field team kicked off the outdoor portion of the 2019 season as they participated in the Amy Adams Memorial Invite at Muskingum University on Friday (March 22) and Saturday (March 23).
As a team, there were 13 placers in the top eight as the Cavaliers finished third of 14 teams.
Owen Read finished fifth in the 100 meter run with a final time of 11.40 and he followed that with a third place finish in the 200 meter run, running a 22.82.
Lane Knoch had two finishes in the top two in the hurdle events. He ran a 15.02 in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing second. Knoch won the 400 meter hurdles event, with a winning time of 55.96.
Joel Berger was tied for sixth in the pole vault as he reached a height of 3.80 meters.
Conner Hluch led the charge in the long jump with a fourth place finish, jumping 6.39 meters.
Varney Pelima won the triple jump with a final jump of 12.93 meters. He also finished fifth in the long jump, coming in just behind Hluch with a jump of 6.34 meters.
Devin Wonner earned a point for Walsh with an eighth place finish in the triple jump behind Pelima. Wonner ended the flight with a best junp of 11.49 meters.
Jacob Ott had the best Cavaliers finish in the shot put, throwing 15.33 meters for a fourth place finish.
Dante Penza placed in two events as he finished seventh in the shot put and he won the discus throw. In the shot put, Penza threw 14.84 meters and he threw 47.50 meters with the discus.
Bradley Gallitz was fourth in the hammer throw, throwing a distance of 50.43 meters overall.
The team will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to take part in the Raleigh Relays at NC State on Friday (March 29).
