Myers Sets Record In Weight Throw At Mount Union

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) – The Walsh track & field team was in action today at nearby Mount Union who hosted its annual Jim Wuske Invitational. On the men's side, Cavaliers finished in the top three in eight events.

In the weight throw, Marcus Myers set a new school record and demolished the meet record with a throw of 18.41 meters, or 60 feet 4 ¾ inches. The previous meet record was set by Rocky Mitolo from John Carroll in 2015. He threw 17.92 meters. The previous school record of 59 feet 11 ¾ inches was set by Connor Booth last season.

Booth finished second in the event this year with a throw of 17.57 meters, or 57 feet 5 ½ inches.

Elsewhere in the throws, Dante Penza took first in the shot put with a distance of 15.43 meters, or 50 feet 7 ¼ inches. James Miller was right behind him with a throw of 15.28 meters, or 50 feet 1 ½ inches, for second.

In the pole vault, Andrew Dowdell cleared 4.6 meters, or 14 feet 7 inches, to finish second.

On the track, the distance medley relay team of Thiessen, Yoder, Murpy, and Patrick edged out a win with a time of 10:53.89. Jacob Turner placed second in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:14.32. The Cavaliers' 4x200 meter relay team of Earl, Long, Neal, and Wieland finished third with a time of 1:36.54.

The Cavs will return to action next week at the Grand Valley Big Meet.
