Cavs Start 2017 At YSU

(YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio) – The Walsh track & field team returned to action today at the Youngstown State University College Invitational at the Watson and Tressel Training Site Friday evening. The Cavaliers were matched up against numbers Division I schools, but were still able to rise above the ranks and place in various events.

On the men's side in the field events, Walsh had multiple placers in a pair of events. Connor Booth was second in the weight throw with a distance of 17.76 meters. He was followed by Myers in third place with a throw of 17.61 meters. Palo placed seventh with a mark of 14.86, and Dante Penza rounded out the squad with a throw of 14.42 meters.

The Cavs also had multiple placers in the shot put as James Miller finished fourth with a throw of 15.47. Penza also placed with a chuck of 14.88 meters.

Andrew Dowdell was fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.40 meters.

In the track events, Ben Lehotay was second in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:48.4. Jacob Kernell was fifth with a time of 8:54.15. Nick Marino was seventh with a time of 8:55.28.

Sherman Kortze placed fifth with a time of 49.33 in the 400-meter dash. Jacob Caniford was seventh in the mile with a time of 4:21.13.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Seth Wieland, Phil Burt, Chad Justus, and Kortze placed seventh with a time of 3:25.92.
