(MORGANTOWN, W.Va.) – The Walsh men's tennis team bounced back with a win against Davis & Elkins on neutral grounds in the Mountain State Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers evened up their season record to 2-2. It was also the first loss of the season for the Senators who are now 2-1.
The Cavs took control of the match by winning two of the three doubles contests and followed up with wins in the bottom four singles pairings. Ross Whittaker and Vasily Vidmanov paired together at No. 1 doubles to take down Thomas Judd and Jack Clifton 8-4. Pablo Cabezon and Jonah Carter teamed up at No. 2 doubles to defeat Samuel Vallieres and Pierre Baudier 8-3.
In singles action, Cabezon made it a perfect day as he defeated Clifton at the No. 3 spot 6-4, 6-2. Rodrigo Garcia defeated Judd at the fourth position in a closer contest by a score of 6-4, 3-6, (7-4). Heitor Adegas defeated Vallieres at fifth singles 6-1, 7-6, and Jose Fernandez won the No. 6 singles match over Tristam Spitsnaugle 6-3, 6-4.
Vidmanov and Whittaker both had opportunities to make it a clean sweep in at first and second singles, but both lost in three sets in which every set except one was decided by two games.
The Cavaliers return to the courts this Saturday in a road contest at Edinboro. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
