Men's Tennis Set For Pair of Regional Matches

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh tennis teams resume action this weekend with important in-region contests against a pair of teams from the GLVC. It is the first matches for the Cavaliers (5-1) since October when they defeated Wooster 6-3 at the Hall of Fame Courts.

Coming back home with two wins won't be easy as Southern Indiana, Walsh's Sunday opponent, is ranked No. 4 in the ITA regional rankings. They play the Eagles on Sunday at 5 p.m. On Monday, Walsh will play Lewis at 8 p.m. The Flyers aren't ranked regionally as a team, but they do have the top two singles players which pair up as the top doubles team in the Midwest as well.

Pablo Cabezon (Jr., Santander, Spain/Calasanz Collegue), Vasily Vidmanov (Fr., Prague, Czech Republic/Russian Embassy School), and Ross Whittaker (So., Massillon, OH/Lake) are the top players for the Cavaliers so far. Cabezon, ranked No. 8 in the region as a singles competitor, has gone 5-1 in singles action in dual matches, most of which have occurred at the top spot. Vidmanov has yet to lose a singles match in non-tournament play. In doubles action, Cabezon also has a strong record as he has teamed with Whittaker for a 4-2 record.
