Cavs Participate in ITA Midwest Regional Tournament

(INDIANAPOLIS) – The Walsh men's tennis team is participating in the ITA Regional Tournament hosted by the University of Indianapolis this weekend. After the first day of competition, some Cavaliers have advanced to the second day of play after impressive wins today.

Pablo Cabezon advanced to the Round of 16 in the Men's A Singles bracket with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Findlay's John Kidd. In the second round, he defeated No. 4 seed Vincent Hamon of Davis & Elkins in a thrilling tiebreaker by scores of 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6). He will face St. Louis' Harry Heyburn tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.

In the singles consolation bracket, both Vasilv Vidmanov and Ross Whittaker advanced to the third win after each won in the first round and advanced by the second round via byes. Vidmanov defeated Tiffin's Luis Ludena by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Whittaker came from behind and defeated McKendree's Aleix Alvarez 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4).

In B doubles action, Jonah Carter and Iagos Lucca advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-4 win over Gilherme Hubsch and Maity Prado of Davins & Elkins and an 8-6 win over Reid Wynkoop and Alex Hawes of Findlay. They will play the Bellarmine pairing of Jimmy Fernandez and Logan Knott tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
