TOURNAMENT CENTRAL: Walsh Men Enters As No. 2 Seed In G-MAC

CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET     G-MAC TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

(FINDLAY, Ohio) – Walsh returns to postseason play tomorrow as the No. 2 seed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by the University of Findlay. It's the 35th time in program history that the Cavaliers have made the postseason since the program started in 1962-63.

The Cavaliers finished the regular season with a 19-7 record overall and were 14-6 in their first season in the G-MAC. They will play the first game of the tournament against a familiar opponent in fellow G-MAC newcomer and No. 7 seed Lake Erie who finished 15-13 overall and an even 10-10 in the conference. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.

This meeting will be the 24th all-time in series history. The Cavaliers have largely dominated the series with a 20-3 record against the Storm, but it was Lake Erie that took both games in close contests earlier this season. Back on January 13, Walsh fell at home to Lake Erie narrowly by a score of 83-79. Then in the regular season finale last week in Painesville, the Storm scored another victory by a score of 67-60 in another close game.

Walsh enters the tournament with the No. 2 offense, defense, and scoring margin in the G-MAC. The Maroon and Gold scores 82.6 points per game while giving up just 67.8 points on the opposite end. The 14.8 average margin of victory is just .3 points per game behind Findlay for the top spot.

The Cavaliers are led by Chandler Vaudrin who has had a sensational sophomore campaign. The lengthy 6-7 point guard has recorded four triple-doubles this season, two more than anyone else in the nation regardless of division or association. He currently ranks fifth in Division II with 7.4 assists per game, and also leads the conference in defensive rebounds per game, double-doubles, field-goal percentage, steals per game, total steals, and total assists.

The Storm counters with Gabe Kynard, who is tied with Vaudrin for eighth in the conference with 15.3 points per game. He has scored double-figures in all but two games this season.

The winner of tomorrow's game will advance to the semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m. against the winner of No. 3 Hillsdale and No. 6 Alderson Broaddus. Those teams will square off in Game Two at 2:30 p.m. following Walsh and Lake Erie.

Regional Rankings: Walsh dropped to No. 9 in the most recent regional rankings after last week's loss to Lake Erie. The winners of the G-MAC, GLVC, and GLIAC tournaments will receive automatic bids to the regional tournament with the next five highest ranked teams in the region following the conference tournaments receiving at-large bids.
