(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – It was a split weekend for the Walsh baseball team after it dropped two to Alderson Broaddus at Biery Stadium on Saturday. The Cavaliers (13-11, 7-5) fell to the Battlers (5-19, 3-9) in a pair of close contests by scores of 9-7 and 4-3.
In the opener, the lead changed hands four times. Walsh was able to tie the game in the seventh on a Brenden Spaulding double to left to plate Andrew Czech before regaining the lead in the next inning when Marcus Bobb singled to left to score Ross Etgen. However the lead was short-lived as the Battlers answered with three runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Ben Bulchik was charged with the loss as he fell to 1-2 on the season.
Walsh appeared to get the offense going early in the night cap as it jumped out to a 3-0 run after two innings, but once again Alderson Broaddus battled back and scored in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take the win.
All three of Walsh's runs came on round trips as Czech homered for the sixth time this season with a two-run blast. Alec DeBruler followed with his second to make it 3-0. Avery Jannin also left the yard in the opener, his fourth of the season.
Aidan Mlachak too the loss to fall to 1-3 on the season.
The Maroon and Gold will be back in action Tuesday for a non-conference regional twin bill against Indiana (Pa.). First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
