(AUBURNDALE, Fla.) – Walsh's spring continues to improve as it crushed Notre Dame College 15-0 at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex on Monday evening. The Cavaliers are now 3-1 in Florida and 3-4 overall on the season. The Falcons dropped to 2-6 on the season.
The Cavaliers did most of their damage with a six-run fourth inning and a seven-run eighth.
Already up 2-0 thanks to a pair of Avery Janning RBI in the first and third, a pair of extra-base hits opened the flood gates. Ross Etgen belted the first on a double to center that scored Joey Holiga before he later scored on a bases-loaded triple by Eric Conner that also scored Marcus Bobb and Cobe Hutchison. Andrew Czech eventually scored Conner on a single and scored himself on a passed ball later in the frame.
When all was said and done, Conner finished the day 2-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored. Czech was also impressive with a four-hit day with a pair of RBI and three runs scored. Janning went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI as well.
While the offense shined, so did the pitching with the first shutout of the season. Nik Barkdull got the start and went the first six frames with eight strikeouts and scattered seven hits. Brady Rupp, Caleb Canter, and Tim Murray each took one of the next three frames.
The Cavs will be back in action tomorrow in a true road game as they head to Florida Tech to take on the Panthers. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
