(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - The 2017 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. II All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year have been announced in all eight regions. Walsh's Austin Szink and Ryan McSweeney were named as First Team selections, while Matt Iosue was named to the Second Team.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America Committee.

Szink has also been named as an All-GLIAC, NBCWA All-Midwest, and D2CCA All-Midwest First Team selections. McSweeney was an All-GLIAC and NBCWA All-Midwest First Team selection in addition to a D2CCA All-Midwest Second Team selection. Iosue was an All-GLIAC and D2CCA All-Midwest Second Team selection.
Szink was named to the First Team as a catcher as a threat at the plate both on offense and defense. His .648 slugging percentage is fifth in the GLIAC and his 13 home runs are fourth. He also has 53 runs scored for seventh in the GLIAC, and is seventh in RBIs with 45 and total bases with 116. Szink sports a perfect fielding percentage and has caught 12 runners stealing, second-best in the conference.
McSweeney was named to the Second Team as a relief pitcher. When Iosue and other starters left the game, McSweeney was called upon as the team's closer and delivered with nine saves, second-most in the GLIAC. He had a 0.91 ERA in 29.2 innings pitched over 17 appearances. Despite being a reliever, McSweeney still racked up 31 strikeouts for a 9.4 average per nine innings. He was the deciding pitcher five times this season with a 4-1 record.
Iosue was named to the First Team as a starting pitcher. The Cavs' ace went 7-3 on the year for the third-most wins in the GLIAC. His 2.16 in GLIAC games and two shutouts led the league, while he tossed 10.37 strikeouts per nine innings in conference contests. The southpaw ended the season with a 2.90 ERA overall, third-best in the conference.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on Tuesday, May 30. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team will be announced on Wednesday, June 21.
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
The Chair of the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America & Coach of the Year Committee is Rudy Garbalosa of Lynn University. Also on the committee are Jim Gantt of Catawba College, Harry Hillson of Mansfield University, Rick Giannetti of Dominican College, Rob Penders of St. Edwards University, Kyle Poock of Winona State University, Jamie Detillion of Grand Valley State University and Randy Betten of Cal Poly Pomona.
